Sircila, Sep 20: In view of the 2009 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi on Saturday, Sep 20 began his mass contact programme from Sircila, which has gained notoriety due to starvation deaths of handloom weavers.
The actor-turned-politician interacted with the handloom weavers and promised to ameliorate their sufferings.
''I will raise my voice for the voiceless,'' he assured amidst huge applause by his admirers.
He announced that his party would field a member from the Backward Classes to contest the coming elections to Sircila Assembly seat so that their grievances were better heard in Hyderabad.
Presently, the constituency is represented by veteran TDP leader Ch Rajeswara Rao.
He assured the members of the Muslim community in the constituency that he would ensure self-employment opportunities in their homeland so that they need not separate with their family members in search of jobs. A large number of Muslims of this constituency had been migrating to West Asian countries for eking out a living.
