Lucknow, Sep 19 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh police today seized 80 tonnes of crackers and fireworks material and arrested 11 people for running the illicit business in view of the impending Dusshehra and Deepawali festivals.
State Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (Law and Order) Brijlal said on September 10 the police had launched an intensive drive against people who were engaged in illegal making of fire crackers.
In Aligarh, the police raided two godowns in Banna Devi area and seized 80 tonnes fireworks and the material used in its manufacturing.
Besides, 873 kg crackers and explosive material were recovered, the ADG added.
A raid was also conducted in Saharanpur district and three boxes of crackers were seized. In total 11 people were nabbed in this regard.
Licenses of 14 shops were also cancelled in the state over irregularities in manufacturing crackers, Mr Brijlal said.
