Jammu, Sep 19 (UNI) The Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS), a conglomerate of religious, political and social organisations that led the Amarnath land movement, has decided to compensate the families of martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the two-month long agitation.
''The core committee of Sangharsh Samiti in a meeting yesterday has decided to pay tributes to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the agitation besides compensating their families an amount of Rs 4 lakh each,'' sources told UNI.
The Samiti sources said each family, who had lost their loved ones in two-month long mass movement, would be compensated tomorrow at a function to be organised here.
''Eleven people have sacrificed their lives during the agitation while the seriously injured would also be compensated on the occasion,'' the sources added.
The Samiti, however, would also hand over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to one of the protesters namely Pawan Singh, who lost his eyes in police firing at Jourian during agitation.
Meanwhile Pawan Singh along with others, who got physically handicapped during agitation, would be treated in the best medical institutes of the country and Sangharsh Samiti would pay all the expenses for their treatments, the sources asserted.
Moreover many saints and religious gurus, who participated and supported the agitation, would also be felicitated by the Samiti.
