Release political detenues, youths detained on flimsy ground, PDP
Sringar, Sep 19 (UNI) Urging the government to release, before Eid festival, all political prisoners and youths who were arrested on flimsy ground for their participation in recent ''pro freedom processions,'' the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed anguish over the plight of detainees including women languishing in various jails.
The PDP General Secretary Nizam-ud-Din Bhat in a statement here today sought immediate release of political prisoners and innocent youth detained on flimsy grounds before the Shab-e-Qadar on the eve of Eid-ul-fitr.
He said that the families of the hundreds of detainees are in deep plight and continued detention of their loved ones without any trial is exposing the apathetic attitude of the administration and security agencies who have even been flouting court orders with scant regard for much trumpeted sanctity and the authority of the judiciary.
Mr Bhat pointed out that many people are languishing in jails outside the State and the administration has repeatedly failed to address the genuine concerns of their families who are forced to run from pillar to post.
Many in the process are subjected to humiliation and torture brewing anger in the helpless lot, he added.
The PDP general secretary said that hundreds of young ones are subjected to harassment and a manhunt for many for the last few weeks has compounded the situation.
He alleged that a deliberate attempt is being made to brew despair among the youth whose future is being made bleak and under an ill conceived policy of arrogance and high handedness.
Mr Bhat said that under this design several families have more than one member under the threat of arrests or has already been placed under detention.
