Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) Punjab Police has been directed to strengthen its information gathering network and maintain constant liaison with the intelligence wings of the Central Government and other states.
These instructions were handed out to his officers by DGP N P S Aulakh today with particular emphasis on the recent serial bomb blasts in Delhi.
Presiding over a high level meeting of the top brass of the state police to review the security scenario after recent Delhi blasts, the DGP emphasised on the need of pre-empting the nefarious designs of anti national forces rather than reacting after an incident has occured.
The police should seek cooperation from general public for collecting vital information, he said.
He asked the field officers to keep an eye on people with suspicious background, even if they are in jails and their sympathisers.
The DGP also urged the officers to step-up drive against narcotics smugglers in collaboration with central agencies as it was felt that smuggling was very closely linked to those who are a threat to the security of the nation. He also gave instructions for making use of technology like installation of CCTV cameras at all important sensitive places and also in crowded markets.
He also directed the police brass to effectively check the flow of counterfeit currency in the state and to find out its origin.
