Police opens fire to disperse violent mob of students
Lakhisarai, Sep 19 (UNI) Police today opened fire on a group of violent students who ransacked the offices at Lakhisarai railway station and damaged AC coach of the 3236 Danapur-Sahebganj Intercity express here.
Railway sources said during a special ticket checking drive, several students were caught travelling without tickets in the AC coach of the train.
The magistrate accompanied by RPF and GRP personnel pushed two- three out of the moving train following which the students became violent and completely damaged the coach they were travelling in and also tried to torch it.
The railway sources said some of the violent students lit fire to set the coach ablaze but the fire was doused immediately by the fellow students.
Later protesting agaisnt the police action, students ransacked offices at the railway station and also looted cash from the ticket counter.
Two cops, one from RPF and the other from GRP were injured in the violent attacks of the students and were admitted at the local subdivisional hospital.
The sources further said the police had to open fire to disperse the violent mob of students.
Meanwhile, DRM B D Garg rushed to Lakhisarai railway station.
District Magistrate Yoganand Dutt and Police Superintendent Shiveshwar Prasad Shukla were camping at the site.
The situation was tense but under control, sources added.
