Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) Indian Plastic Federation (IPF) in association with WBIDC is setting up two poly parks at - Sankrail and Haldia- with an estimated investment of Rs 1000 crore, IPF president K K Seksaria today said.
Initially 143 plastic manufacturing units will come up and start operation by 2009 at Sankrail in Howrah district in an area of over 250 acres land, Seksaria told reporters after IPF's annual general meeting.
He said 118 units have applied for space for setting up their manufacturing facilities in the poly park which would be expanded with additional 150 acres of land.
Saksaria said space was not a problem as land owners willingly wanted to sell off their land since they were getting premium rates.
He said West Bengal Industrial Development Coporation (WBIDC) was providing technical and logistic support in setting up the poly park at Sankrail.
Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology also offered its logistical support and R &D for poly park at Sakrail.
CIPET's director general Professor S K Nayak, who was here, said they were actively thinking to set up one unit at Sankrail to coordinate with the plastic manufacturing facilities for betterment of the industry.
IPF president Saksaria said talks were on for setting up second poly park at Haldia in coordination with Haldia Development Authority and WBIDC.
He said India's average consumption of plastic was only five kilos compared to worldwide demand of 35 kilos, signifying huge potentiality of expansion of plastic manufacturing facility in the country.
