Immersion procession turns violent, 1 killed, 8 injured
Rourkela, Sep 19 (UNI) A person was lynched and eight people, including some policemen, were injured during a clash in the immersion procession of Lord Ganesha in Koida village, about 110 km from here.
An irate mob also burnt a police vehicle inside the Koida police station soon after the incident yesterday.
Rourkela Superintendent of Police Santosh Bala said after the police arrested six persons and kept them in police custody, a mob entered the police station and assaulted the six accused.
They also attacked the police personnel on duty and set a police vehicle on fire compelling the security personnel to flee the area.
All the arrested persons were seriously injured in the attack and were admitted to the hospital.
One battalion of police, headed by the Additional Police Superintendent, and the CRPF were camping in the area as tension prevailed in the village.
Meanwhile, additional police forces were rushed to the area to prevent any untoward incident.
CPI-M Bonai MLA Laxaman Munda and Sundergarh district CPI-M party secretary Banamali Dhopal today demanded the immediate arrest of the miscreants responsible for assaulting the people and police personnel inside the police station.
