Govt to decide on spectrum sharing in 2 months: Scindia
New Delhi, Sept 19 (UNI) Minister of State for Communications and IT Jyotiraditya Scindia today said the government will take a decision on spectrum sharing in the next two months.
''We are discussing the possibility of allowing operators to share spectrum...Hopefully in a month or two, we would see some sort of process coming out of that,'' Mr Scindia told reporters here.
However, telecom secretary Sidhharth Behura yesterday said there is no such proposal before the Ministry at the moment.
Spectrum sharing allows those licenced operators, which have spectrum but not enough subscribers, to lease out excess capacity to another operator within its circle.
The government also gains from the fee paid for the shared spectrum.
If spectrum sharing is allowed, then the short-term crisis of spectrum crunch could be overcome.
