Delhi CM expresses satisfaction on Delhi police progress
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today expressed satisfaction at the progress achieved by the Delhi Police towards solving the September 13 bomb blasts in the capital.
Reacting to today's encounter by the Delhi Police at Jamia Nagar in South Delhi in which one terrorist was arrested and two others were killed, Ms Dikshit said she was satisfied to note that the Delhi police had achieved a lot of progress in a short time since the September 13 blasts in Central Delhi and South Delhi areas.
Talking to reporters at the sidelines of a function to announce the entry into the Congress of former Delhi NCP Chief and Gujjar leader Ranvir Singh Bidhuri, the Chief Minister said,''I feel that after today's encounter, people of Delhi will be assured and satisfied that the Delhi police is in a full state of alert.'' Asked for her reaction on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's statement that he had warned of blasts in Delhi a week before they occurred, Ms Dikshit said,''if the Gujarat Government claims it was aware of the Delhi blasts, why could it not avert the blasts in Ahmedabad.'' In the encounter in the Jamia Nagar area of South Delhi this morning, police gunned down two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists while arrested another.
The encounter followed a tip-off by Abu Basher, an Ahmedabad blasts suspect, who was brought here yesterday by the Gujarat Police.
While Atif, alias Bashir, and one of his accomplices Fakhruddin were killed in the encounter, another terrorist was arrested.
A huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered from the 'hideout' of the terrorists, police said.
