Puducherry, Sep 19: Sugunaraj, Head Constable, attached to the Villianur police station was suspended today for allegedly refusing to accept a complaint and register an FIR.
Police said, a team of revenue officials, including Thasildars led by Villianur sub-collector Sivakumar was on a routine check of vehicles to prevent illegal sand quarrying in the Sankarabharani river here last evening . The team signalled a sand-laden lorry at Uravayaru to stop. The driver, however, drove the vehicle towards them to create an impression that the lorry ran-over them and sped away.
Police and the officials chased the lorry, which was found abandoned near a bush and impounded it. Mr Sivakumar then went to the police station to lodge an 'attempt to complaint' murder.
However, Mr Sugunaraj refused to accept the complaint, following which the matter was brought to the District Collector Thevaneethi Das.
Mr Das, in turn, contacted the senior superintendent of police Srikanth, who conducted an enquiry and suspended the head constable.
