Jaipur, Sep 19 (UNI) Freedom fighter and renowned Sarvodaya leader Puran Chand Jain was today fondly remembered on his 99th birthday.
Former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, renowned journalist Prabhash Joshi, Economist VS Vyas and a number of dignitaries participated in the centenary celebration which began here today.
The distinguished trio of Sarvodaya and Khadi activists including Mr Jain, Sidhraj Dhadha and Jawahir Lal Jain were born in Jaipur in 2009 and a number of organisations including the Rajasthan Khadi Gramodhyog Sanstha Sangh, Kumarappa Gram Swarajya Sansthan, Rajasthan State Gandhi Memorial Nidhi are jointly organising the trimurthy's year-long centenary celebration from today.
Mr Joshi delivered lecture on relevance of Gandhism in Journalism and dealt well with transformation of today's commercialism oriented journalism from value and mission oriented journalism of pre-Independence Gandhian era.
Former Vice President Mr Shekhawat supported views expressed by Mr Joshi and said that value based missionary journalism of Gandhian era was still relevant in the era of commericalism today and the same, if practiced by scribes, might solve many of the burning problems being faced by the country.
