Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad, today seized substantial quantities of fake ISI-marked 53 grade ordinary Portland cement with fictitious BIS standard mark.
The cement packed in 50 kg HDPE bags, bearing brand name ''VIRAT GOLD'', were confiscated during raids at a unit in Ravulapalli village in Kodangal Mandal of Mahaboobnagar district, a release here said.
The raids conducted by the BIS team was to check fradulent use of ISI mark on 53 grade ordinary portland cement.
As per the PFA Act, it was mandatory that the product 53 grade ordinary portland cement shall bear ISI mark before being marketed and the units manufacturing 53 grade 'OPC' shall obtain BIS Licence to use ISI mark.
The unit did not have a valid licence to use ISI mark and thus violated BIS Act 1986 by misusing ISI mark. Action was being initiated against the unit, the release added.
