Basu appeals for cooperation to resume work at Nano car plant
Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today appealed to all sections of society to extend their cooperation for resumption of work at the Tata Motors small car factory in Singur.
In a statement issued here, the CPI(M) patriarch said, ''The Nano car unit at Singur is extremely important for industrialisation and development of West Bengal. If the small car factory materialises, it will prove beneficial to the state's economy and also create massive employment opportunities by attracting further investment.'' He apprehended that if the world-renowned project failed to materialise, it would prove detrimental to the state's overall image.
''In order to ensure that the project stays in Bengal, the state government has announced a new package for the landlosers. I appeal to all concerned sections to accept the compensation package and cooperate in the smooth functioning of the Nano car plant,'' he said.
