Atwal finishes tied 57th after Round 1 of Oregon Classic

By Staff

Junction City, US, Sep 19 (UNI) Recovering from a mid-round slump, ace Indian pro Arjun Atwal carded a one-under 71 to earn a place at tied 57th spot on the opening day of the Nationwide Tour's Oregon Classic Golf Tournament here.

Atwal's front nine, which was flawless, was studded with two birdies at the first and ninth hole.

However, the Orlando-based golfer settled with a bogey on the 10th and double bogey on the 14th, adding to his woes. He managed back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to restore some measure of respectability to his score.

Ryan Hietala and Matt Bettencourt of America were tied for the lead after they carded 65s in the 500,000 dollar tournament that has a winner's share of 90,000 dollar.
