Guwahati, Sep 18 (UNI) A phone call to police control room here warning of bomb attacks on Hindi-speaking people today created panic across Assam with police toughening its security measures further.
The caller warned of planting bombs in areas with majority Hindi-speaking people in Guwahati, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Nagaon.
A police spokesperson said the call was received at 1100 hours at the central police control room here.
Though the call appears to be a hoax and targeted at creating panic, nothing has been left to chance and security has been beefed up, the spokesperson said.
Police were tracking the call and has launched an investigation to nab the caller.
Assam has a bloody history of militant outfits, including ULFA and tribal groups, attacking Hindi-speaking community in the state, with the last major such serial attacks in January 2007 when more than 70 people were killed.
