Mob attack houses in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Sep 18: Five people, including two women, were injured and property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged when a mob attacked seven houses of former Shiv Sena city chief and his supporters in Ichalkaranji town of the district late last night, police said today.
The supporters of one Sunil Devarde allegedly attacked former Shiv Sena city chief Mahadev Gaud and his supporters over the recent dispute between them, they said.
According to police, Devarde's supporters first attacked Gaud's house situated in Bandgar mal locality of the town and ransacked it after they realised that he was not at home. Later, the mob went on ramapage and damaged houses of his supporters. It also damaged five vehicles.
The attack by Devarde's supporters was a fallout of an earlier attack by Gaud's supporters during Ganesh idol immersion procession, they said.
The situation in the town is tense but under control they said, adding, five people have been detained so far in this connection.
