Former Assam Assembly speaker passes away
Guwahati, Sep 18 (UNI) Former Assam Assembly Speaker Ganesh Kutum died last night at a hospital here after prolonged renal disease.
He was 62 and served as Speaker of the Assembly during the last AGP regime between 1996-2001.
He was elected to the House twice.
Mr Kutum was suffering from renal failure and was on life support system for the past one week.
His body was taken to the Assembly Secretariat and then to his party offices of AGP(P) as well as AGP this morning.
A former leader of the Assam agitation, he was one of the few senior leaders of the AGP who sided with Prafulla Kumar Mahanta when the party split in 2004.
His death was condoled by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
