Five convicted in Prof Papia Ghosh murder case
Patna, Sep 18 (UNI) A fast track court here today convicted five people, including a lawyer, in the Prof Papia Ghosh murder case.
Designated judge of the fast track court(V) of Patna Omprakash found Sankar Sao, Manohar Kumar, Aashish Kumar Roy and Anil Uraon guilty under section 396 of the Indian Penal Code for committing murder during dacoity and under section 412 of the Indian Penal Code for recovery of stolen articles.
On the other hand, the fifth accused in the case Ram Chandra Mahato, a local lawyer, was held guilty by the court under section 414 of the Indian Penal Code for possessing stolen articles.
The judge had fixed tomorrow for hearing on the quantum of punishment.
Papia Ghosh, a professor in the History Department of the Patna University and her maid Malati Devi were brutally murdered by the culprits during a dacoity in the residence of the former, situated in Patliputra colony in the state capital on the night of December 2, 2006.
An FIR was registered at Patliputra police station in this regard.
