Call warning of attack on Hindi-speaking community creates panic
Guwahati, Sep 18 (UNI) A phone call to police control room here warning of bomb attacks on Hindi-speaking people today, created panic across Assam with police ramping up its security further.
The caller warned of planting bombs in Guwahati, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Nagaon --areas with Hindi-speaking people in majority.
A police spokesperson said the call was received at 1100 hrs at the central police control room here.
Though the call appears to be a hoax and targeted at creating panic, nothing has been left to chance and security has been beefed up, the spokesperson said.
Police were tracking the call and have launched an investigation to nab the caller.
Assam has a bloody history of militant outfits, including ULFA and tribal groups, attacking Hindi-speaking community in the state.
Last such attack happened in January 2007, when more than 70 people were killed.
