Vishwakarma Puraskar and National Safety Awards Presented

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Minister of State for Shipping K H Muniyappa today presented the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar and National Safety Awards for 2006.

As many as 28 workers were presented the Vishwakarma Rastriya Puraskar, while 154 National Safety Awards were given in various categories.

The awards were given to workers, their representatives and managements in factories and docks for humanising industrial activities and promoting safety and health at work.

Mr Muniyappa said despite new challenges emerging due to changing job patterns, rise in contractual work, and employment of new technologies, safety and health norms were not up to the mark in the small and medium enterprises where large work force was employed.

He stressed the need for adapting pragmatic measures to control the prevalence of occupational injuries and providing conducive working conditions to all workers.
