Speakers' conference to deliberate on Anti-Defection Law
Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) The 73rd Conference of Presiding Officers of Legislative Bodies in India and 51st Conference of Secretaries of these bodies would be organised by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here from September 20 to 24.
Haryana assembly Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian told reporters here today that about 400 delegates, including Lok Sabha Speaker and Speakers of all state assemblies, would attend these conferences and ponder over Anti-Defection Law, threat of terrorism besides individual problems of state assemblies and other topics of national importance.
In the Conference of Secretaries to be held on September 20, the topics to be discussed would include Anti-Defection Law, Oath of Affirmation, Voting, Right to Information and Whip.
The Conference of Presiding Officers would be held on September 21 and 22 to be followed by a symposium on September 23.
Topics for discussion during the Presiding Officers Conference would be Time Management in the House and Code of Conduct for the Members, Need to strengthen Public Faith in the Democratic Institution and Terrorism--A Threat to National Unity and the Role of Legislatures.
A symposium on 'Anti-Defection Law-Need to Review' would be held on September 23, Mr Kadian said.
On September 24, he said, a post-conference tour to the holy city of Kurukshetra had been organised for the delegates. They would be taken to various religious sites, Kalpana Chawla Planetarium, Kurukshetra Panorama and Shri Krishna Museum.
