Lucknow, Sep 17 (UNI) Samajwadi Party today announced to launch a 'do or die' agitation in Uttar Pradesh against what it called the atrocities on the people of the backward community unleashed by the Bahujan Samaj Party government.
State SP working president Shivpal Singh Yadav said here the backward cell of the party would launch the agitation against the state government on demand of giving Schedule Caste (SC) status to 17 Backward caste, as given by the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government and to go for a special drive to fill the vacancies of the Backward Caste in government jobs.
''The Mayawati government is enemy of the backward castes of the state and had done nothing for them. Even all the 14 members of the state Backward Commission were from SC'', he added.
Mr Yadav said the decision to launch the agitation was taken in the two day meeting of the party's backward cell, which concluded here today. SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav also addressed the backward cell this morning.
SP Backward cell chairman and Rajya Sabha member Ramnarain Sahu said the agitation would be held from district to tehsil level and it will continue till the demands were met.
