Lahore, Sep 17 (UNI) Controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar's chances of returning to the national squad appeared even more bleak today with a selector casting doubts on his fitness for international cricket.
''He (Shoaib) doesn't seem to be match fit,' the selector said on condition of anonymity.
''We read newspaper reports about his performance for Surrey and almost all of them said that Shoaib is far from being fit.
His figures in the match in which he took just one wicket are also quite unflattering,'' he added.
Akhtar was unable to leave a mark in his first match for Surrey.
He took just one wicket in the match and was clearly struggling with his fitness.
The 33-year-old pacer from Rawalpindi is desperate to return to the national squad for next month's four-nation Twenty20 event to be held in Canada.
However, lack of match fitness and his relationship with the board are blocking his international return.
