Chennai, Sep 17 (UNI) Floral tributes marked the celebration of 130th birth anniversary of rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy in Tamil Nadu today.
On behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, accompanied by his ministerial colleagues, including K Anbazhagan, Arcot N Veerasamy and M K Stalin, garlanded the statue of Periyar on Anna Road.
Earlier, Mr Karunanidhi released ''Thanthai Periyar Vazhvum Thondum,'' a Braille book on the life of Periyar at his Gopalapuram residence.
Ms Feno Sebeen, a visually handicapped student of Stella Maris college, who received the first copy, read out a portion from the book, much to the job of Mr Karunanidhi.
At Periyar's birth place in Erode, Union Minister E V K S Elangovan inaugurated a photo exhibition, depicting the life history of the rationalist leader and paid floral tributes.
On behalf of the AIADMK, former Ministers O Panneerselvam and D Jayakumar garlanded the statue of Periyar near Anna Flyover.
Dravidar Kazhagam President K Veeramani, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and DMDK President Vijaykanth were among others who paid floral tributes to Periyar.
