Amritsar, Sep 17 (UNI) A Mumbai-based undertrial girl attempted to commit suicide in the womens ward of the high security Central Jail here last night.
Police sources today stated that the undertrail, Priyadarshani Das used a 'dupatta' to hang herself from the ceiling fan in the womens ward. However her fellow inmates and the jail staff immediately pulled her down and untied the 'dupatta' around her neck.
She was later rushed to the civil hospital here where she is still admitted. Preliminaty inquries by the jail staff revealed that the undertrail was unhappy with the treatment being meeted out to her in jail and the manner in which she was rebuked by her fellow prisoners for the dresses she wore.
She was arrested in April this year under the NDPS Act by the Special Narcotics Cell of the Punjab Police from a posh hotel with 10 kg heroin which she claimed was given to her in Delhi by a Nigerian. A college drop-out, since then she has been in jail.
