Heavy rains lash Delhi, more showers expected tomorrow

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed Delhi this evening, bringing Delhiites some respite from the warm and humid weather prevailing for the last couple of days while also throwing life in many parts of the city out of gear.

The showers, which followed a heavily cloudy sky since afternoon, caught Delhiites unawares. The downpour, while providing relief from warm and humid weather, also led to waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas.

The intensity of the showers could be gauged by the fact that a total of 37.4 mm rainfall was recorded till 1730 hrs.

The maximum was recorded at 35 Degree Celsius, one degree below normal.

Earlier, in the morning, the sharp rise in humidity to 100 per cent, coupled with the sunlight in the sky, led to sultry conditions in the city.

The rains, however, brought some respite from the humid weather.

More rains are expected in the coming days with weathermen forecasting more spells of rain and thundershowers in the city in the next 24 hours.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with more spells of rain and thundershowers, one or two of which could be heavy.
