Bangladesh board to slap 10-year ban on rebel players

Dhaka, Sep 17 (UNI) The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today banned the 13 rebel players, who have joined the ICL, for 10 years from playing international and domestic cricket.

''The decision will be equally effective for contracted players or coaches if they participate in any unofficial tournament having no approval of the International Cricket Council (ICC) or the Bangladesh board,'' the BCB president Major-General Sina Ibn Jamali told mediapersons.

Jamali was speaking after a board meeting convened after seven contracted players applied to the board for early retirement.

At a function in New Delhi last night, the ICL announced an all-Bangladeshi team which was named 'Dhaka Warriors' and will have Balwinder Singh Sandhu as the coach.

It unveiled six new faces which included former captain Habibul Bashar, Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali, Shahriar Nafees, Farhad Reza, Dhiman Ghosh, while Mosharraf Hossain, Mohammad Rafique, Tapash Baisya, Manjural Islam and Mohammad Sharif, reserve wicketkeeper Golam Mabud, and Mahbubul Karim, will also form the team.

Bashar has led Bangladesh to their maiden Test win and to 29 one-day international victories becoming the country's most successful captain.

With 3026 runs under his belt, Bashar is Bangladesh's leading Test run scorer.

Apart from Karim and Mabud, all the players have represented Bangladesh in Tests or one-day internationals.

Kapali, Reza and Dhiman were in the Bangladesh squad that played a three-match one-day series against Australia earlier this month.

ICL which has not been sanctioned by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has already drawn a lot of attention with some of the top international players taking a plunge into it at the cost of international cricket.

Players participating in the league have been banned from playing international cricket by their respective national Boards.
