Top athletes to compete in Asian All Star Meet

Bhopal, Sep 16 (UNI) Asian Games 400m champion Olga Tereshkova (Kazakhstan) will run it against Asian championship silver medallist Satti Geetha and Asian Games medallist Asami Tanno of Japan in the second edition of 'Asian All Star Meet 2008' to be held here on September 18.

According to the organisers over 60,000 dollars of cash awards will be given to the top three positions in each event.

First place will be given 1,500 dollars and second and third place will receive 800 and 500 dollars respectively.

Asian Champion, Song Amin of China will be the key attraction of the meet. She will face tough challenge in the women's discus throw from her arch rivals Krishna Poonia and Seema Antil of India.

In the men's triple jump event, Renjith Maheshwary (pb 17.19m), India's star triple jumper and current Asian Champion have a lot to prove in Bhopal.

Chinese Li Yanxi is in great form with a jump of 17.30m this season. Another 17meter plus jumper from Kazakhstan Ektov Yevgeniy will add more glamour to the contest.

Women's high jump will emerge with sensational results when two high jumpers, Yekaterina Yevseyeva and Natalaya Ivoninskaya from Kazakhstan who are co-owner of the current Asian Record of 1.98m fight for top slot.

More than 60 top ranked Asian athletes from 20 Asian countries will vie for top honours in the following events.

Men: 100m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, 400m hurdles, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Long Jump.

Women: 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100m hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Discus Throw.

Top Asian ranked athletes who will vie for top honours in the meet include among other Men: 400m: Abiko Mitsuhiro (Japan), 800m: Sajad Moradi(Iran), High Jump: Lee Hup Wei (Malaysia), Tsuchiya Hikaru(Japan), Triple Jump: Li Yanxi (China), Ektov Yevgeniy (Kazakhstan), Discus Throw: Abbas Samimi (Iran) Women 400m: Maslyonko Marina (Kazakhstan), Asami Tanno (Japan), Olga Tereshkova (Kazakhstan), 800m: Margarita Matsko (Kazakhstan), 100m hurdles: Natalaya Ivoninskaya (Kazakhstan), Anastasya Pilipenko (Kazakhstan), High Jump: Yekaterina Yevseyeva (Kazakhstan), Nadiya Dusanova (Kazakhstan), Discus Throw: Song Amin (China).
