New Delhi, Sept 16 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today expressed concern at the emerging phenomenon of ''metro-terrorism,'' like the Delhi blasts of September 13, saying it had given a new dimension to subversive activities.
Asking the state and central governments to deal firmly with terrorism, insurgency and Left Wing Extremism, the President said intervention by trans-border elements posed a threat to India's security and integrity.
In her inaugural address at the Conference of Governors and Lt Governors from all over the country, the President said Left Wing Extremism was fast becoming a vexed problem and outfits with varying goals had been waging a long and enduring warfare against the State with some forming a mutually-supportile grid in this proxy warfare.
She said the big challenge today was the battle against terrorism, Left Wing Extremism and insurgency.
''The serial blasts which occurred on September 13 in Delhi is fresh in our mind. This emerging phenomenon of metro-terrorism has given a new dimension to subversive activities and is a matter of serious concern,'' she said.
She said the State and Central Governments had to deal firmly with those who follow the path and culture of guns and both the Governments had conjointly adopted a multi-pronged conflict-management and conflict-resolution strategy UNI RB SB AS1355
