NHRC member spreading awareness against child labour
Kaithal, Sep 16 (UNI) The Central government had sanctioned opening of special schools at Hisar and Yamunanagar districts where the children freed from child labour would be provided education.
Three such schools were already working in this state, member of National Human Rights Commission R N Malawat said while addressing representatives of brick kiln organisations, Rice millers, NGO's and local officials as part of an awareness drive.
''An wakening should be created among the people to eradicate the menace of child and bonded labour from the society,'' he said stressing that there was a complete ban on employing children below 14 years at Dhabas, places of entertainment and even as domestic servants.
Mr Malawat said that supervisory committees at district level had been constituted to effectively implement the ban and they should make surprise checks to detect the crime in their area.
ADC Ramesh Verma told media persons that though the problem of child labour and bonded labour was not prevalent in Kaithal district, Still the administration was keen to spread awareness among the people about these problems.
