Mumbai, Sep 16 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said that the state government would consider the demand of Maratha community to be included in the OBC category.
Speaking at a meeting, Mr Deshmukh said the government would look into the reservations offered by other states to give reservations to the Maratha community.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, Chief secretary John Joseph and other officials participated in the meeting, in which Maratha co-ordination committee was represented by Vinayak Mete, Shashikant Pawar and Purushottam Khedekar.
Mr Deshmukh appealed to the community not to resort to agitations on the issue.
