HM District commander surrenders in Kishtwar
Jammu, Sep 16 (UNI) A self-styled district commander of Hizb-ul-Mujaheedin (HM) outfit today surrendered before the security forces in Nawapachi area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here said.
''Based on specific information regarding the presence of militants in Nebar, Nawpachi village, the area was cordoned off after a joint operation was launched by the Kishtwar Police and troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles,'' official sources told UNI.
However, during the search operation, presence of a militant was established and he (ultra) offered to surrender before the operation party, sources added.
''He laid down one AK 56 rifle, one magazine and 30 live rounds and during preliminary questioning, the militant revealed his identity as Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh, 35, alias Saleem Javeed, resident of Satur Wagan, Tehsil Marwah in district Kishtwar,'' sources added.
The ultra was a self-styled District Commander of HM outfit and went to Pakistan in 1998 for arms training and returned in 1999.
Since then the militant has been active in the Marwah Tehsil, sources asserted.
