Puducherry, Sep 16 (UNI) Puducherry State Kalai Ilakkiya Perumandram and Progressive Writers Association would jointly organise a function here on September 27 to mark the completion of 100 years of the arrival of Revolutionary Poet Subramaniya Bharathi to Puducherry.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Kalai Ilakkiya Perumandram Secretary Sivakumar and Writers Association Secretary S Anbazhagan said Bharathi first came to Puducherry in September, 1908 and stayed here for 18 years.
His works, while staying in Puducherry, were most popular with the Union Territory playing an important role in the life of the poet.
To celebrate the completion of the 100 years of his visit to Puducherry, they would organise a procession on September 27 in which Tamil scholars, artistes and students among others would take part.
Sahithya Academy Winner Prapanjan would inaugurate the procession at the Periyar Statue which would culminate at the Bharathi Memorial House. In the evening, a public meeting would be held at the Gingee Thidal.
