Fire at home appliances company, Rs 40 cr worth equipment damaged
Tuticorin, Sep 16 (UNI) Electrical appliances valued at about Rs 40 crore were damaged when a major fire broke out at the Venus Home Appliances company here today.
A spark from a welding unit, led to the explosion of a cylinder and believed to have caused the fire, which gutted almost the entire factory, fire service sources said.
Venus Home Appliances is a leading manufacturer of water heaters and other electrical appliances.
As the employees were asked to leave the premises soon after the fire broke out, no casuality was reported.
More than 100 fire personnel were pressed into service and they put out the fire after a nearly five-hour-long fight.
