East Bengal prepare for I-League under Rozario, Bagan boss in troubl

Kolkata, Sep 16 (UNI) Newly appointed coach Stanley Rozario today began his training session, preparing East Bengal for opening match against local challenge United SC for second I-League starting September 26.

East Bengal, finished third in the Kolkata Premier League behind runners up Mohammedan Sporting and champions Mohun Bagan. The Kolkata giants bolstered its team's morale with the signing of Ghanaiyan Yusif Yakubu, a prolific striker in India for many years.

Rozario, having pretty good experience in coaching under Bob Houghton, arrived here yesterday to take charge of East Bengal after Monoranjan Bhattacharjee on Saturday quit the club after failing in the presitigious domestic league.

Rozario, known as a strict disciplinarian, said the boys were in good shape and need some momentum to give their best in the I-League.

Eest Bengal play their I-League opener at Barasat in 24-Parganas when Vasco take on Sporting Clube de Goa in Margao simultaneously.

Rozario started the training session in two parts - morning and evening - to fine tune Gis players.

Meanwhile, EB have lodged a complaint with All India Football Federation, India's supreme soccer body, asking it to punish Mohun Bagan's general secretary Anjan Mitra for ''derogatory comments''.

Mitra on Saturday reportedly suggested that East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting should change their names as the current names have a communal tone and sectarian feelings.

Md Sporting have demanded a public apology from him.

Md Sporting's general secretary Sultan Ahmed in a statement said Mitra should set an example by changing name of centuty-old Mohun Bagan.
