Cong demands CBI inquiry into attack on places of worship
Mangalore, Sep 16 (UNI) Strongly condemning the planned attack on prayer halls and places of worship in three districts of the state, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge today demanded a CBI inquiry into the violent incidents to track down the perpetrators.
Speaking to newspersons after visiting the violence-hit areas of the port city, Mr Kharge, expressing anguish said properties of several places of worship and prayer halls were damaged in the attacks and a minority community was living under constant fear.
Charging the police with remaining passive spectators when attackers targeted places of worship, the Congress leader sought an investigation into the 'inaction' of the law enforcing authorities.
He claimed that innocent people were beaten during the protest against attack on minorities.
Alleging that activists of Sangh Parivar were responsible for the attack on places of worship and minorities, Mr Kharge demanded that Home Minister Dr V S Acharya should resign owning moral responsibility for failing to protect the minorities.
He appealed to the people not to get provoked and maintain peace in the district.
