Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre has decided to release coins with a portrait of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai, on the occasion of his centenary celebrations, which began on September 15.
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, in a letter, conveyed this to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
This followed the Chief Minister's letter to the Centre on August 28 that the Centre should honour the former Chief Minister by releasing coins with his portrait, an official release here said.
Mr Chidambaram, who had assured in his letter on September two that the Centre would take steps, conveyed in his letter on September 14 that the Centre has decided to release the coins.
The Chief Minister thanked Mr Chidambaram, besides conveying his wishes to the Union Minister on the occasion of his 63rd birthday.
