Tirupati, Sep 16 (UNI) Renowned vocalist late M S Subbalakshmi has played a key-role in popularising 'Annamayya keertans' among the people, TTD Executive officer K V Ramanachari said here today.
Speaking after garlanding the statue of M S Subbalakshmi marking 92nd Jayanti celebrations here, he said Subbalakshmi's efforts helped to popularise 'annamayya keertans' across the country and abroad.
The saint-poet Annamayya had composed nearly 30,000 keertans in the praise of Sri Venkateswara Swamy, the EO added.
TTD's Annamayya Kalamandir artists rendered the saint-poet's keertans before the statue.
Later, the artists took out a procession from the bus stand to the Annamayya kala-mandir singing 'annamayya sankeertans' in chorus.
