Madhya Pradesh: 2.76 lakh claim for forest rights
Bhopal, Sep 16: As many as 2,76,598 claims from tribals and forest dwellers across Madhya Pradesh have been received so far for ownership rights on forest land under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers( Recognition of rights) Act 2006 and Rules 2008.
Of this, 88,107 claims have been verified. Besides, 67,108 resolutions have been passed by Gram Sabhas and 14,531 by sub-division level committees, official sources said today.
Following is the division-wise break-up of claims received and verified (given in brackets). Bhopal-39,361 (14964), Narmadapuram -13,921 (2385), Indore- 53,086 (12,088), Ujjain- 1691 (1691), Chambal- 2808( 569), Gwalior- 47,782 (26,775), Sagar-28,443(10,928), Jabalpur -27703( 28,443), Shahdol - 22,420(1726) and Rewa -34038 (5265).
Under the Forest Rights Act, resolutions passed by Gram Sabhas and by sub-division level committees (given in brackets) include : Bhopal division 1134 (1142), Narmadapuram-373 (813), Indore 9172(3070), Ujjain 1691(686) , Chambal -400 (222), Gwalior- 26774 (4416), Jabalpur- 11743 (2719), Shahdol- 1442 (385) and Rewa 2682 (197).
