Thane, Sep 15 (UNI) Chairman of the Thane Municipal School Board Suresh Gada today alleged that a whopping sum of around Rs 15 crore, earmarked for repairs of civic schools in the city, had been misappropriated.
Addressing a news conference here, Mr Gada, who took over as Chairman of the School Board just two month ago, said he was shocked to find that the repair works in the various civic schools had never been done despite the fact that around Rs one crore had been allotted for the works for the last 10 years.
Mr Gada said he had taken up the issue with the civic officials, as some of the schools are in a pathetic condition. It was decided to trace as to where the money had gone, he said.
He said on September 17, the day on which the corporation celebrates the Teachers day, 16 teachers, including five from the private schools, would be felicitated.
In keeping with the choice of the present-day parents, the corporation had started two English medium schools, and has undertaken a survey to identify the requirement of additional English medium schools in nine zones, he added.
