RGIA first Asian airport to get LEEDNC Silver Rating
Hyderabad, Sep 15 (UNI) The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport(RGIA) had been awarded the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design New Construction (LEEDNC) 'Silver Rating' by the US Green Building Council, becoming the first airport in Asia to be awarded the certification.
In a statement here today, GHIAL CEO P S Nair said efforts to be environmental-friendly right from design stage and constant focus on green has not only helped in saving 25 per cent energy and 30 per cent water, but has also inculcated a discipline within the organisation to preserve the environment.
GHIAL will constantly strive to make the airport to be a safe, secure and delightful experience for the passengers and this is another step in that direction, Mr Nair added.
Indian Green Building Council Chairman Prem C Jain said the achievement of the Hyderabad Airport authorities in LEED Rating was noteworthy.
Mr Jain said infrastructure projects can be environmentally responsive. The Hyderabad Airport has elevated India to the international arena, he added.
