Bangalore, Sep 15(UNI) The Rajya Sabha Committee on Petitions today heard a petition seeking 'reasonable' restriction on the use of mobile phones in educational institutions, religious places and a ban while driving vehicles.
Committee Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, speaking to newspersons after holding the hearing here informed that the committee held an interaction meeting with Teachers, representatives of educational institutions, students, priests and others and sought their opinion on the issue.
While teachers, principals and heads of the educational institutions sought restricted use of Cell phones, mobile phone companies took a defiant stand on the issue, he said.
During the interaction meeting it was felt that the installation of electronic jammers were not feasible and favoured for a law to restrict it.
Mr Naidu said the committee would also seek the opinion of cell phone manufacturers before arriving at a decision on it.
The committee heard the living conditions of Leprosy-affected people and their rehabilitation and held discussions with State Government officials from Health, Education, Social Welfare Departments and Local authorities.
