New Delhi, Sept.15 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will assess the internal security situation of the country during the two-day conference of Governors, which begins in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Sources said that the focus of the conference would be a threadbare discussion of the internal security environment of the country with special reference to Left-wing extremism and insurgency.

The steps taken for police modernisation, the security scenario along the international borders and related issues, various aspects of bilateral relations with India's neighbouring countries will also come up for discussions, official sources said.

The meeting bears significance in view of the fact that it comes just three days after the Delhi serial blasts, which so far claimed 24 lives, and weeks after Amarnath land row.

Issues relating to climate change and sustainable development in India's context, the Indian agricultural scenario and food security, current economic situation and strategy for price stability will be discussed at the two-day conference.
