Pondy: Panel to study Co-op Dept affairs

Puducherry, Sep 15: Co-operation Minister M Kandasamy today said the administration would soon constitute a two-member committee under a retired IAS officer to consider the present state of affairs of the Cooperative Department.

Addressing the press here, Mr Kandasamy said the committee would find out the causes for the losses of Cooperative Department and stringent action taken against the guilty.

The administration would ensure the people got supplies from the PDS shops.Surprise checks would be conducted and shopkeeper suspended on the spot if any item was not found in the shop for delivery.

The administration was considering changing the working hours of the ration shops in rural areas to suit the poor farmers.

The Minister said the cooperative sugar mill at Lingareddippalayam and PONTLE were running at losses and efforts would be taken to turn them around.

A survey would be made to identify poor people with two LPG connections for provision of Rs 30 as subsidy on each cylinder.

The supply of refill cylinders without ration cards could not be implemented here.

Severe action would be taken if the hotels were found using LPG cylinders meant for domestic use,he said adding steps would be taken to provide cylinders at a subsidised rate to poor tea shop owners.
