Kidney racket kingpin, brother granted bail
Mumbai, Sep 15 (UNI) A Metropolitan Magistrate court here today granted bail to Dr Amit Kumar, alleged kingpin in the multi-crore kidney transplant racket, and his brother and co-accused Jeevan Raut.
While granting the bail, Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate R G Wankhade directed them to furnish a surety of Rs 15,000 each. The court also issued a show cause notice to the investigating officer for failing to file a chargesheet within the stipulated period of 90 days against the two.
Defence advocate Ratnakar Singh had earlier contended before the court that accused were interrogated by the police at length and that keeping them in jail will not serve any purpose.
Dr Kumar was brought to the city by the CBI on June 17 from Ambala in Haryana, after he was arrested in Nepal earlier this year.
