UP: Judicious use of Power can help solve crisis
Lucknow, Sep 15: Even as Uttar Pradesh is reeling under severe power crisis, several villages could be provided electricity round the clock, if the power is utilised a bit judiciously with the reduction in usage of high masks and hoardings.
Power Department sources said as many as 50 villages could be provided electricity, if the usage of high masks and hoardings was reduced in Lucknow. The city has nearly 25 high masks that pose burden of 100 Mega Watt each day. Besides, 100 MW is utilised each day on the hoardings in the state capital.
Besides, 200 MW electricty could be saved and supplied to nearby 200 villages if use of excess street lights was checked.
UP is reeling under power problem due to the wide gap between its demand and supply. The state is producing only 2,232 MW electricty each day and purchasing 3,000 MW from the Centre.
Despite this, UP is bearing the peak-time shortage of about 1,500 MW each day.
According to the sources, barring Lucknow and few cities, rest of the districts are facing severe power roastering and getting electricity for only 14-15 hrs a day.
Barabanki and Faizabad districts are getting power supply for 12 and 15 hrs respectively each day, the sources added.
