JK orders inquiry into desecration of shrine

Srinagar, Sep 15: Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged desecration of the holy Dastigeer Sahib shrine by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) near here on Saturday.

The Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, said he will issue formal orders appointing the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) to inquire into the allegations.

He said the guilty would be punished according to law of the land and added he will also look into the complaints about the beating up of mediapersons by the CRPF.

The shrine management, meanwhile, said they will not wash the shrine arena till the accused CRPF personnel, who entered the shrine and damaged window panes and showed disrespect to holy books, are punished.

They also decided to offer '' Zuhar and Asar'' prayers during the day on the main road till the premises are washed.

Thousands of people, joined by chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik, Shrine Imam Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami and other separatist leaders, including Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Javid Ahmad Mir and Shakeel Ahmad Bakshi participated in a day-long 'dharna' at Hari Singh High Street against the CRPF yesterday.
