Hyderabad, Sep 15 (UNI) The final leg of immersion of Ganesh idols ended in a peaceful manner today, with the immersion of more than 5,120 idols, including the tallest made at Khairatabad area, in the Hussainsagar lake amid tight security.
A crane from Germany was utilised to lift the 47-feet high idol made at Khairatabad area and the procession, which started at 2200 hrs last night reached Hussainsagar lake at 0800 hrs today for the immersion.
The idlos immersed also included the famous Balapur Ganesh idol.
Lakhs of devotees witnessed the ritual. More than 46 mobile cranes were Director General of Police S S P Yadav, City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao and several top police officials personally supervised the security arrangements for processions at various places in the city, including the old city Charminar area, the main route for the processionists to reach Hussainsagar lake.
According to police, over 26,000 policemen, including 11,548 from other parts of the state, had been deployed to maintain a strict vigil and ensure smooth end of the 12-day festival, coinciding with the Holy month of Ramzan.
In view of the increased threats from Maoists and terrorist organisations, and the serial bomb blasts on Saturday in New Delhi, 42 bomb disposal teams with 33 sniffer dogs, 80 access control and anti-sabotage teams were deployed to prevent any attempt to disrupt the festivities.
