Rajkot, Sep 15 (UNI) Four people were rescued in two incidents and one person was reported missing as rains, accompanied with thundershowers and lightning, continued to pound several parts of the Saurashtra region for the past four days, reports reaching here said today.
Two farm labourers had been rescued by the disaster management staff from the flood waters at Juni-Sankali village near Jetpur in the district last night. They were rescued with the help of rope.
The village has recorded 250 mm of rainfall during past 12 hours, the official sources said.
Three persons travelling in a car were trapped in flood waters as their vehicle overturned in the strong current at causeway near Dholara village of the district last night. The villagers and fire brigade staff could rescue two of the occupants of the car, while third, identified as Raghubhai Rughani, was reported missing in swirling water. They were returning to Rajkot from Dholara, the sources said.
Meanwhile, 800 people have been shifted to safer places from Torania and Moti Parabadi villages of Dhoraji taluka as a precautionary measure because the Phulzar River is in spate.
A 30-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were injured after a lightning struck them in the farm at Vachhara village in Gondal taluka of the district. They were shifted to civil hospital here.
Junagadh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Amreli and Kutch districts of the region had recorded the rainfall ranging from 25 mm to 250 mm during last 24 hours, reports said.
Rajkot city recorded 79 mm of rainfall till 0800 hrs today, making the season's total to 669 mm, the weather office said.
Water logging was reported in Panchayat chowk, Ramnagar area, Saurashtra Kala Kendra, Tagore Marg, Mahila College under-bridge and 150 ring road areas of the city. The local authorities were busy pumping out water from these areas.
